The Director of Sales and Marketing at Performance Motors
Ltd, Mr. Patrick Pow Kwok Yun, is accused of obtaining a bribe from the
director of Skyway, Mr. Kheh Thiam Hoo.
The case grabbed attention in 2005 and become one of the
biggest and popular Corruption cases.
About Kheh Thiam Hoo-
Mr. Kheh is the director of a well-established company, Skyway
Credit & Leasing (Performance Motors Ltd’s appointed sole finance agent). The
company, incorporated in 1999 July 21st, works majorly as a credit agent
between major banks and consumers for their vehicle financing needs. Other than
offering to finance to consumers in Singapore, the company’s major business has
now moved on to the Parallel Import of the luxury vehicle, granting consumers
more options and more competitive rates.
About the Case-
As per the case details,
Mr. Kheh Thiam Hoo offered a $13,390 Franck Muller watch to Mr. Pow in
exchange for ‘maintaining a good business relationship’ with the finance
company.
Other than that Mr. Pow is also alleged of receiving two
loans of $50,000 and $32,000 for accepting proposals, submitted by Skyway, on
Parf/COE rebate certificate commission payout rates to Performance Motors.
Apart from Mr. Pow, the man who was bribed by Mr. Kheh was
Former senior sales manager Chong Ann Teck, 40. He is alleged to have received
a $12,700 Pioneer plasma TV set in order to 'consider favorably' its future
business proposals.
Mr. Pow was related to a total of 8 Cases regarding
corruption charges and out of them three were related to finance company Skyway Credit & Leasing Pte Ltd.
As a result, Pow was charged with corruptly obtaining
gratification from Kheh as an inducement to re-appoint the firm as a finance
agent and dealer of Performance Motors Ltd respectively.
Both Mr. Pow & Mr. Chong is out on bail of $100,000 &
$30,000 respectively.
